Sue Waters - QLD
I care for my hubby who has slowly gone downhill after an accident in the army reserve, over the last 30 years, 20 of those I worked part time, but 12 years ago it became apparent I was needed at home more. We suffered financially and life has been tough because of it, but we manage. He is affected mentally with lots of psychological problems, he hates not working, he hates pain, he hates depression and suffers terrible back pain and so suffers with many other physical problems. In the last 2 years he is using a spinal cord stimulator to help with pain in his back. So, for me self-care is really so important. I manage a carers group from home, with help from others, just to give me another focus, and the group has grown to 350 in my area, and some of us get together monthly and a lot on Facebook as well. I too hate the fact that I had to give up work, so this helps fulfill that need for me and helping others is satisfying. Every day has its challenges, some huge some not so much, and we learn together each day. (Submitted in September 2023)
