Jessica - VIC
I am the single mum to a 10-year-old boy, Will, who has dual diagnosis. I have also recently got diagnosed with ASD. Every day is challenging, exhausting, pushes your limits but you always find the strength to keep going and often put others ahead of yourself. The caring role is a role that is not recognised enough, whether dealing with NDIS or any other agency. You are continuously fighting for supports for your loved one. It’s hard to maintain employment, you lose relationships, and you are constantly on the go. The rewards far outweigh the obstacles, you find strength you never had, a voice that has never been heard, and fighting qualities that make you a force to be reckoned with, along with self confidence that you never thought existed. I would change anything in my journey from before being a mum, I have an amazing boy who I would do anything for and a team of people behind me that have our family as their number one priority.
