Sue Wendy Waters - QLD
I care for my hubby who had to retire 31 years ago with a back injury and other conditions from an accident in the army. While he gets assistance from DVA, I don't. So, I had to find my own resources which I have done in the last 16 years. I had to stop working 14 years ago, due to the ongoing needs of my husband and my own health needs. In doing that, I created a Carers group in our area. I now have over 300 carers and provide information and support to them via a Facebook group and stay connected with all the carers organizations with news and happenings. Now with George, we are appealing for an increase in the allowance as I lost the Carers Payment when I went onto the Aged Pension. So now I receive the Allowance and so glad I do, it pays for petrol to run hubby around and the rest I put towards running the car! Caring is not an easy job, but a real love job and it keeps my husband at home and happy and better able to manage his pain. (Submitted in October 2022)
